There is another reason why I advise doing this before you start the game which is covered in my next tip. If the above links don't work or you never received a code for this then just go to the link below after you register and just buy the "Cerberus Network" DLC which you will find here at the very reasonable price of free: Go to to create an account (I think EA accounts created elsewhere will work well here), then go to to redeem your Cerberus network code and finally to download and install your DLC. This is content that you are already entitled to and it happens to be quite good so I don't recommend you wait or risk forgetting to install it. While it is technically possible to play the game without any of this content since it is now offered at no cost to all players and if you have any interest in playing this content my advice is to install it now before you begin the game.

This includes a new character & mission among other goodies. Unlike the previous game where you could just load the game and play right away in Mass Effect 2 a decent chunk of the initial game content is locked behind an online network that's not included with the installed files. If you're the proud new owner of Mass Effect 2 you should have in your possession a code for what's called the "Cerberus Network".

Please offer your constructive feedback in the comments below and enjoy. Thank you all for taking an interest in my guide and I hope any of the tips here help you enjoy Mass Effect 2 and the rest of the series to its fullest potential. I made sure to give you as much advice as possible for character creation since this is perhaps the most crucial point where this advice is needed and then some tips to help ensure you continue to enjoy the game to the end. This guide will be organized into five main parts, before you play, character creation, character progression, general gameplay, and quests. I will also make some spoiler-free suggestions to the next and last chapter of the trilogy as needed. The purpose of this guide is to help players new to the Mass Effect world have a good foundation of spoiler-free knowledge to have a better first experience with this game or who just wants some helpful pointers. If you haven't done so yet I encourage you to check out my guide on choosing which game to begin with (ME1/ME2) unless you already have which is why you're reading this one. Thanks to the feedback on my ME1 guide I was encouraged to create a similar one for ME2 since a fair number of players decide to start at Mass Effect 2. Welcome to my next Mass Effect Steam guide.
